However, the keyword density must also be considered, that is, the keyword is not being already used by many other websites and competitors, thus low competition exist for the keyword. This is when keyword research tools come in.

Wordtracker is one of the best ones available and probably the widely used one. There are some more equally important research tools that one can also use. There’s the Overture, Google AdWords Keyword and Guidebeam.

Overture’s keyword suggestion tool is free and much quicker to use than Wordtracker. It works more like the Wordtracker but doesn’t tell you how many websites are targeting each keyword phrase. For example if you type ‘Computer’, the Overture search suggestion tool will tell you that during the last month the word ‘Computer’ was searched, say for example 459550 times at Overture.Com. Similarly ‘computer game’ was searched 302210 times. Also, given one word it will tell you all relevant combinations of that word, which are based on actual searches done by people. If the word you keyed in is not a common search term then you will not get any results. It means that very few people have actually searched for that word during the last month.

Even Google Keyword Tool generates potential keywords for your ad campaign and reports their Google statistics, including search performance and seasonal trends. Features of this tool include,

  • Sorting the results of your desired keyword search by popularity, past performance history within the AdWords system, cost, and predicted ad position.
  • Easy keyword manipulation where you can select a few keywords here and there or add them all at once.
  • Searches for keywords present even in any webpage URL specified by your search. It can also expand your keyword search even further to include those pages that are linked to or from the original URL page.
  • More keyword results are generated based on regularly updated usage statistics database. This helps you to get new keywords or phrase

I must admit that one of the reasons why I stick to blogging despite the high-time demand of my hospital duties is the money I get out of it. Basing on experience, earning online is never that easy. I could attest that it’s a lucrative source of income but at the same time an unstable one.

There are several things that a blogger making money online could face. Many people might think that by mere posting they can already earn from their blogs. Of course you have to have an established blog before you could reach at least a $100 mark per month to get your monthly check. By saying ‘established’ I meant enough traffic, generated clicks and impression, good search engine and page rank, enough inbound links, etc. That is, your blog must meet at least nearly all the criteria of a good blog.

However, if you already have an established blog, it’s always easy to earn money from blogging.

There are three popular ways of making money through blogging:

Advertisement. Once your blogs become popular, you establish readership, which in turn attracts potential advertisers. There can be good reasons why most advertisers may prefer online advertising. If you want your blog to be around for a while and you want readers to come in 5 years time and still find your content relevant to them, you need to make sure the content is timeless, whether they read it in 3 months, 3 years or 30 years.

This not only means you don’t have to keep updating your content every 6 months which will save you time, it also helps with other people who you may allow to use your content on their websites. They are sure not going to update your content for you.

I wrote an article 5 years ago that I’m slightly embarassed with having my name on. It was cutting edge at the time, but now, it’s so old it’s funny.

Some topics however, will always be timeless. Find those, write on them.

Blogging For Traffic Tip #4 - Write For Your Visitors As Your #1 Priority Not Search Engines

While you should be optimizing your posts and your blog for search engines, and I talk about this later, your main focus should be on writing for humans, not bots.

Keep this in mind always. Don’t try and repeat your keywords all over your blog posts to the point where it does not make sense.

This might work sometimes for search engine ranking and you may get some extra traffic, but they won’t stay long if the content is obviously geared for search engine ranking. People have a short attention span and won’t waste it on junk.

Content is king. If you have been in the Internet marketing scene for any period of time you would have heard this saying day in and day out. Every Internet marketing manual has this as it’s mantra and rightly so.

One of the biggest problems people have when blogging has nothing to do with the lack of traffic coming to their site. It’s a symptom of something more sinister. Bad content. Even worse then poorly written original content is content that is not original at all. This is the death bell for all blogs that want to be taken seriously.

You HAVE to have unique content. It is the lifeblood of blogging. Every other blog is lacking in original content, you have to be different.

Pay someone to write it if you have to.
